Week 18: In Search of Inspiration

It was December when I got the idea for this blog. Several new projects from all around the world were contracted and I thought it would be nice to share the experiences of working in all these different countries on all these different projects on a weekly basis. How different it is now. The need for social distancing in order to flatten the curve is also flattening life. Personal life and work life. Most of the daily routine is now from home. Business communication is done mostly through emails and video conferencing and social activities is limited largely to family activities.

We try to make the best of it. I have never been so active with my family. We have some sports activities around the house, play board games, ping-pong tournaments, and this weekend we even had an in-house escape room which was designed by my youngest. All great fun, though it would be nice to engage also with friends and have some conversation with generation peers. It was good catching up this week with one of my best friends Mario even if it was through FaceTime and hear about his experiences being a Purchasing Manager at a hospital, with managing acquiring the necessary supplies for dealing with the medical impact of Corona, which has been one of the key challenges of society in the past period. Proud that he and his colleagues have managed to keep our health care system afloat.

Business-wise it become more difficult every week to share some exciting stories. Business rattles on. Much time has been spend on developing online training though that is now in de delivery phase with weekly webinars and recording of training videos. Other projects are ongoing though inputs are limited to some drafting of reports and some occasional video conferences to discuss the feedback on these reports. New projects are being postponed till further notice. My Dubai engagement has been rescheduled to February next year. In exactly the only week that was blocked namely for my winter sport with the family which I cannot reschedule as it is tight to the school holidays. Need to decide whether to drop my favourite holiday of the year or to drop a lucrative and interesting project. Damn.

So, what to write about? I need some inspiration if I want to continue with this blog in an interesting manner. Let’s hope some new exciting developments will emerge the coming weeks to spice up life again. Then again, do we not also need to enjoy the little things in life…..? Just spend the entire afternoon building the Empire State Building…out of Lego.
